Introduction
Champagne Salon was originally created by its founder as a wine to be served to his friends. The quality was so high that they convinced him to sell it--the first vintage sld was 1921, and since, the wine has only been produced during the best vintages.
The heart of Le Mesnil sur Oger
Salon only produces one wine based on 100% chardonnay in miniscule quantities, so availability is always limited. Since its founding, the winery has been sold a number of times but the style and winemaking has remained relatively consistent. Now owned by Champagne Laurent Perrier, Salon is made from 20 parcels all pulled from within the heart of Le Mesnil sur Oger, including the original vineyards from its founding. While Salon does not own many of these sites, they hold long term contracts. The wine is fermented in stainless steel and spends an average of 10 years aging on the lees in the cellar. The combination of amazing vineyards and rigorous selection means that Salon has a unique richness and generosity but also a through line of acidity and elevated minerality. The wines are incredibly long-lived and have the ability to outlast a collector’s desire to drink them.
