The Producers

An iconic red Burgundy producer, Domaine de la Romanee Conti is the standard that all makers of Pinot Noir are judged by worldwide. Decades of consistently producing amazing wines from the best sites in Burgundy, regardless of vintage, will do this. DRC owns a staggering 28 hectares of Grand Crus with additional land agreements in Corton Charlemagne. While the sites are fantastic, the domaine’s farming and vineyard care produce such unrivalled results.

There is a rich history of viticulture in Tuscany dating back to Roman times. Chianti-Classico has been recognized as one of the best wine regions in Italy for centuries. However, over the last 150 years other regions of Tuscany has seen a rise to fame and recognition. Sangiovese is the most important grape in the region, with a range of quality produced. The best areas for these wines are located on fine Galeastro soils (a fine crumbly clay combined with limestone and marl) and Albarese (a heavier soil dominated by sandstone).

It is hard to think of a more iconic American winery than Ridge Vineyards, with a history dating back to 1962 very little has changed since that first vintage. They are masters of making Cabernet Sauvignon and perhaps the most American grape, Zinfandel. From a philosophy standpoint, very little has changed at Ridge since their founding, they make wines of elegance, that have a clear sense of place, and are some of the most age worthy wines ever produced in the United States.

One of the results of all the tasting and travel that we do is that we find great producers and wines that we are excited to share with you. These are either new producers that are just coming to market or established ones that might have quietly charted their own path that deserve a little time in the spot light.
