Introduction

Biondi Santi is synonymous with the Brunello di Montalcino appellation. In fact, Brunello owes its existence to the Biondi Santi family. Founded by Clemente Biondi Santi in 1840, his grandson Ferruccio created the first Brunello bottling in 1888 when he was inspired by the singularity of the wines produced on the estate. Now run by the 7th generation, the Biondi Santi family who oversee the Tenuta Greppo estate.

High-toned and aromatic

The soils on the estate consist of galestro and marl, spread over 25 hectares. There have been significant changes in the viticultural practices employed by the estate, though their work with clones has stood out for generations. Their proprietary clone, the notable separation of BBS 11, is the base for all their current plantings. The family focused on lower yields, organic farming, and firmly believes that great wines are made in the vineyard, not the winery. The winemaking is traditional, largely following the practices established by previous generations. Aging occurs in large Slovenian oak barrels prior to bottle aging. The wines are incredibly high-toned and aromatic, even in their youth, with firm but polished tannins. As they develop, the wines become more subtle with focused savory aromatics. They are a benchmark for Brunello and among the most timeless and serious wines produced in Italy.
